Service Learning

What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why? The most important thing i learned was how to silk screen and how to improve my designs. This is what helped me mot with answering my EQ and also helped me most for when i wanted to start a silk screening business.

How did what you did help you answer your EQ?  Please explain. I witnessed how much cheaper it is when you print your own clothes witch brought me to my best answer of designing and printing your own clothes in order to be a successful entrepreneur in the clothing industry.

Room creativitiy

1) i plan on making the room look like a trade show and present how clothing lines would present themselves at a clothing line trade show i always want to bring in a silk screening machine.

2) have them draw out a design and i show them how i trace it on the computer.

Research Check 14

Basic Screen Printing Techniques 101:

l: Just because they have the title “screen printer” doesn’t mean they are one!

I: this is true ive known some people that say they know how and when i order some shirts they cant do it.

L: I choose the 160 to 180 because I want to lay down a little less ink since this is a multi-color job AND in doing so I will not have to flash cure between colors

I: i need to learn the mesh differences i always heard about them but never knew what they meant

L:  would also have used a dual-cure photopolymer emulsion as my stencil since they can be used with only a single coat on each side and they hold up well, yet reclaim easily.

I: didnt know there was different types of emulsion

L: When printing multi-color prints on light shirts you generally print the lightest color to darkest color OR the smallest print area to the largest area.

I: did not know this didn't think it mattered

L:  The easiest way to line-up screens on a multi-color print is to make a print of the outline or main color and just line-up the other screens to the print. Sure you may get a little ink on the bottom of the screen but guess what? It will wipe right off.

I: dont really know what he means by this

Costs of starting a clothing company:

L: How much do I need to start my clothing brand?

I: theres three types of budgets amateur, indie, and professional.

Sole Proprietorship: The Right Business Structure?

sole proprietorships have many advantages

Quicker Tax Preparation- filing taxes for a sole proprietorships is way easier then a corporation all you have to do is get  1040 form from the IRS and fill that out putting the profit made and lost.

Lower Start-up Costs- its way easier to start up a sole proprietorships then a corporation. Its less money and you need special forms.

Ease of Money Handling- Handling your money is way easier and when you pay your self you dont need to do it through payroll it would be even easier to have separate bank accounts.

Personally Liable- All your personal wealth and assets are linked to the business. If you operate in a higher risk business such as manufacturing or consumables, the cost to benefit ratio is favorable toward a corporate structure.

Lonely at The Top: have to be able to work good on your own but there will be more money for you

How to Start a Sole Proprietorship:

Be prepared to devote time, use business methods, and get set up properly so you can make more money, minimize taxes, and avoid potential problems

Become a business

Independent component 1

Literal
I, Jesus Diaz, affirm that i completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
I worked at a skate shop for 30 hours, it helped me understand how a skate shop worked, how they decide if they let a clothing line in or not, and what they do with all the other clothes.
Interpretive
I had the guy i worked with sign off a justification form to prove that i worked there. I worked two ours a day working and learning about managing a skate shop
Applied
This helped a lot answering my EQ, now i know what skate shops/ stores look in to letting a new clothing line in. I also learned a lot about how it works and how much you pay to get into a store but you get a lot out of it. Also most successful clothing lines have there own store named after the brand and to know the fundamentals of how to run your own store just puts me a step ahead of everyone else thats starting there own clothing brand and a step ahead to making a successful brand.
